Company B – “The Spear

Creation

The original Texlos St. Ives Independent Guard, for its entire existence, had only one company. When Max Wong reformed the unit into Texlos Independent Vanguard and aimed to grow beyond the St. Ives region, he realized the Vanguard needed a pipeline for up-and-coming MechWarriors.

Thus Company B “The Spear” was formed. Most of its members tended to be younger, a few of them were only a handful of years out of academy. But after spending the past four years working as a unit, they are now ready to spread their wing.

Commander and the Commend Lance

As of 3037, The Spear consisted of a Recon Lance filled with advanced Capellan tech and a Fire Lance built on proven classic platforms. It does not have a Command Lance structure.

Depends on the mission, instead of letting the two lance captains lead their teams as usual, Ryan may choose to form a Command Lance with them. This move serves two purposes: keeping the best leaders close, and giving junior officers a trial by fire.

When he is on the battlefield, Ryan will command from his VND-5L Vindicator, a Capellan-engineered evolution of the same 'Mech once piloted by his uncle.

Recon Lance – “Ghost Step”

“You’ll never see them coming, but you’ll always feel the sting.”

Specialty: Stealth reconnaissance, ECM disruption, fast strike.

Overview: Ghost Step is the Vanguard’s eyes and ears, striking from the shadows and vanishing before the enemy can respond. Built around a balance of electronic warfare, high-speed recon, and light ’Mechs, Ghost Step thrives in the chaos of scouting missions and ambushes. The lance has earned its reputation by slipping past defenses to expose weaknesses, only to return in force when the rest of the Vanguard is ready to strike.

Lance Commander
Lieutenant Vincent HALLECK “Spitfire”

 – Phoenix Hawk PXH-4L

Halleck earned his callsign during his early years as a hot-headed duelist who refused to disengage, even with his ’Mech on the verge of collapse. Though he’s tempered with age, the name stuck, a reminder of his fiery spirit in both battle and debate. In command of Ghost Step, Spitfire has grown into a steady hand who balances bold reconnaissance thrusts with keen tactical instincts. His Phoenix Hawk makes him the ideal point man: fast, dangerous, and hard to pin down.

33 years old as of 3037.

Sergeant
YANG Jiayi (楊佳怡)
“Specter”
Raven RVN-4L

Formerly of the Capellan Confederation, Jiayi is quiet, analytical, and prefers to remain unseen until her ECM and sensor tricks turn the battle upside down. Her callsign “Specter” comes from her uncanny ability to disappear from an enemy’s scope mid-fight, reappearing only when it’s already too late. She is fiercely loyal to her lance and takes pride in her role as their invisible shield and electronic spear.

28 years old as of 3037.

MechWarrior
Elias TRENT
“Matchstick”
Stinger STG-6L[T]

A scrappy survivor of multiple brushes with death, Trent picked up his callsign after ejecting from a burning cockpit and being pulled from the wreckage blackened like a used matchstick. He has a reputation for reckless bravery, pushing his Stinger far beyond its limits. Matchstick thrives as a scout who can harry enemy flanks, and his humor helps keep morale high—even when odds are poor.

25 years old as of 3037.

MechWarrior
LIAO Wen (廖文)
“Pepper”
Wasp WSP-3L[T]

The youngest in Ghost Step, Wen earned “Pepper” from his tendency to needle both his lancemates and his enemies with stinging remarks. On the field, his Wasp is much the same: small, sharp, and annoying to pin down, always darting in to strike before slipping away. Wen views recon duty as a chance to prove himself against both enemies and his own Capellan family legacy, which he left behind.

22 years old as of 3037.

Fire Lance – “Steel Ember”

“From the spark to the blaze, we burn through all who stand against us.”

Specialty: Direct fire support, battlefield anchoring, heavy assault.

Overview: Steel Ember is the hammer of the Vanguard, laying down relentless firepower to pin, punish, and destroy. Its composition blends raw firepower with defensive endurance, allowing the lance to absorb punishment while methodically tearing apart priority targets. Whether bombarding from range or holding the line, Steel Ember turns battlefield sparks into infernos that enemies cannot withstand.

Lance Commander
Lt. ZHAO Meiling (趙美鈴) “Torch”

 – Marauder MAD-5L

A cool-headed officer with a reputation for methodical destruction, Zhao Meiling commands Steel Ember with the precision of a surgeon. Her callsign “Torch” comes from her habit of isolating and burning down priority targets until nothing remains but wreckage. She is measured and calculating but inspires respect through sheer battlefield presence.

34 years old as of 3037.

Sergeant
CHEN Xinyi (陳信義)
“Bastion”
Cataphract CTF-4L

Chen is the rock of Steel Ember, steady under pressure and unwavering in defense. His callsign “Bastion” comes from his preference to hold the line, drawing fire and anchoring the formation. While not the flashiest pilot, his reliability has saved lives again and again.

31 years old as of 3037.

MechWarrior
Julian MAREK
“Dustoff”
Blackjack BJ2-OA

A former medic turned MechWarrior, Marek’s callsign comes from the medevac slang term “Dustoff.” He still carries his medical kit in his ’Mech’s cockpit and is the first to rush to aid comrades downed in battle. His gunnery skills make him a capable fire support pilot, but his greatest contribution is his unshakable commitment to keeping the team alive.

26 years old as of 3037.

MechWarrior
Samantha ZHOU “Hailstorm” Catapult CPLT-C4

Precise, cold, and relentless, Zhou rains down LRMs with the force of a winter storm. Her callsign “Hailstorm” is both a reflection of her devastating barrages and her chilly demeanor in the field. Though she keeps others at a distance personally, few question her dedication to the Vanguard’s success.

27 years old as of 3037.

To be established:

Combined Arms Lance – “Iron Wind”

“Fast. Precise. Unstoppable.”

Specialty: TAG designation, mobile fire support, aerial dominance.

Overview: Iron Wind represents the Vanguard’s future—integrating air and ground assets into a single cohesive strike team. With Kelsey Dorne’s Cavalry Attack Helicopter serving as the lynchpin for TAG spotting and precision fire coordination, Iron Wind sweeps across the battlefield like a storm front. The restored Sprint Scout, a Schrek PPC Carrier, and a Hetzer SRM Assault Gun provide speed, piercing firepower, and brutal close-range punishment. Together, they embody the Vanguard’s adaptability and forward-thinking doctrine.

Pilot Kelsey DORNE “Whirlwind”

 – Cavalry Attack Helicopter (TAG)

Once forced into fragile scout helicopters, Dorne’s new Cavalry gives her the freedom to truly shape the battlefield. With her skill in tagging targets and timing precision strikes, she acts as the storm’s eye: calm, decisive, and deadly. Her callsign “Whirlwind” reflects her shift from prey to predator—fast, disruptive, and able to tear enemies apart through coordination.

31 years old as of 3037.

Note: Dorne is currently rostered under Recon Lance Ghost Step, but Ryan is planning on creating a combined arms lance around her and her Cavalry.
